Partridge is thrilled to share that our Manly House project was awarded as the winner in the Small Building Projects category of the 2016 Association of Consulting Structural Engineers “Excellence in Structural Engineering” Awards! Given the high calibre of the other nominated projects, this was humbling but rewarding recognition for what was an extremely challenging project.
The five-person judging panel was impressed with the building’s technical and structural achievements; the intricate and bespoke structural detailing; the response to the site’s aggressive environment; the physical spans of the cantilevers; the clever use of a curved column to work as a deep beam; and the impressive use of torsional members and torsion reinforcing to support the southern edge of the building on offset and eccentric supports.
In accepting the award we remarked to the audience that, whilst the structural analysis and design of the project certainly had its merits, the true success of the project came down to the wonderful collaboration of the architect, the engineer, and the builder.
Cheers and kudos to our collaborators, PopovBass Architects, and Horizon Habitats. And congrats to the Partridge team that worked on the project.
Several photos of this house have been uploaded to our Structural Gallery.
