Sustainability
At Partridge Partners we endeavour to imbue all our designs with an awareness of not only monetary cost but also cost to the environment. There is an increasingly urgent imperative to construct our built environment whilst being more mindful of our natural environment. After all, our building materials come from Nature. We may change or combine them, we may devise recipes for concrete, steel, bricks and mortar, but all the raw ingredients are provided – free of charge. Mother Earth is generous.
We live on a tiny outpost of the galaxy, with all its beauty, diversity and riches. We have been present for only a flash of time but have already put down a heavy footprint. We need to respect our global home so that we do not condemn ourselves and our children to live in an impoverished world.
How can we design better houses, factories and schools, shops and universities which are in a more harmonious relationship with the earth, from which they spring? How can we work being more mindful of the waste and pollution our designs generate during construction and during their use.
How can we try to conserve and sustain our resources for future generations?
We know there is no one magic bullet, no overarching dogma or solution, but rather we seek a collective approach, a growing awareness of our responsibilities and a desire to try harder to work towards a more sustainable built environment.
