Zone 1 Architects for RAS Re-locationESD Consultants (of which Harry Partridge is a founding partner) was engaged by Peddle Thorpe & Walker/Phillip Cox Consortium to assist their design team in the ecological considerations for the design of the main Show Ring, Woodchop, Dog And Cat pavilions for the RAS site at Homebush Bay. | Straw Bale ConstructionIn 1996, Partridge Partners designed, built and financed a first-floor addition to a suburban residence in Australia using rice straw bales as the external walls. These walls are rendered and not only provide and R-rating 4 times better than full brick construction, but are cheaper and lighter. |
The BES IndexThe Building Materials Ecologically Sustainability (BES) Index is a numerical method of assessing and comparing the 30 most-commonly used materials in the construction industry for their comparative ecological impact. Written together with Dr. Bill Lawson of Solarch at UNSW, it is similar to some Life-Cycle models in Canada and the Netherlands and has been favourably compared at a conference on assessment techniques held in Paris in 1997. | Papers for EDG Notes (Environmental Design Guide)Harry Partridge has written two papers on the use of straw bale construction for domestic and industrial uses and has reviewed a paper on "Design for Flexibility". |
