Client: David Atkins Enterprises Ned Kelly's horse charged into the arena breathing fire and smoke, dominating the stadium; then in a graceful flowing movement bowed down to gently greet Nicky Webster. Later it would transform into the ubiquitous outback windmill. We certified all event structures in the 'Tin' sequence and the 'Flying Fish' suspended above the arena. |
Sydney Olympic Closing Ceremony 2000
Client: David Atkins Enterprises Structural Engineers and Certifiers for: Kylie's thong, Jimmy Barnes blowfly (did not fly due to high wind), rolling hemi-decahedrons, The Shark’s Shark, Crocodile Dundee’s hat ….. etc. | Outdoor Temporary StructuresDesign and certification of outdoor cinema screen using scaffolding framing and canvas sheeting held down against wind uplift by water-filled plastic barriers at Homebush Bay. The design and certification of a three storey Christmas tree structure in City and Hurstville. The site inspection and design of a string of Christmas fairy lights above Pitt St Mall. |
Floating Convention Stage, Hawaii
Project Engineer: Nicholas Joannides This design required us to carry out floatation calculations on a floating pontoon. The pontoon floatation and stability levels were then checked on a trial run in Port Stephens, before it was deflated and flown to Hawaii for erection in a hotel swimming pool, for a 2-hour spectacle of Hawaii dancing. |
